Hello everyone!
We have come to the end of our first month together this year. As we move into October, I just want to give you a rough outline of where we will be going in our studies. For Social Studies, we will be participating in the Student Vote campaign, which provides students a chance to become informed about our municipal election. The Student Vote wraps up with a simulated election, where students can see who would be elected if they were allowed to vote. For English language arts we will continue reading the Skeleton Tree and introduce a reading comprehension strategy that we will use throughout the year. In math we will be progressing with our Numeracy studies, moving on from conversion of fractions to decimals to percentage, to more complex ideas such as the ordering of decimals, as well as the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals, fractions and percents. Finally, in Science, we are going to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather to study ecosystems, with ties in to bridge building. The bridge building exercises will lead into our structures and forces unit. Keep an eye out for updates and emails! I will be sending out a mass email for all field studies in October very soon!
