June 5: WOW! Things have been moving fast. As we wrap up the year it is important to finish up any outstanding major work
Math : June 7th Decimal Test , practice tests have gone home May 12: Thank you to all who have worked to produce some unique and interesting project for our fair on Wednesday May 16. Important notice: We must have an allergy notice for all food products that may contain allergens (e.g. baking ). Also, you must make sure to practice good food safety by keeping ingredients cold or warm as needed. It is strongly recommended to package your goods (e.g. wax paper bags, or wrap) to allow you to serve them. We have a very limited access to fridges in the gym so coolers with ice packs are a great way to keep your food safe and fresh. A supply of gloves (non latex) will be made available to handle food as it is being prepared. Make your product safe, attractive and desirable! WE NEED YOU to be at school Wednesday night from 5 to 7 for our fair. Make sure to let your folks at home know this. Make sure to keep all receipts for reimbursement. Science : We are wrapping up our Heat and Temperature unit with our final , student designed lab. Students are to create a procedure that tests three energy transfers. Next Monday we begin our demonstrations. Students need to have their procedures and safety measures approved by me and collect materials (or locate school supplied materials). We will have a sign up for which day, next week , they will present from Monday to Thursday. Heat and Temperature final: May 9th! We will complete a practice resource and send this home for study beforehand April 17: We are busily completing and delivering our surveys for our Market Project (Entrepreneurial project). We have some options for our friends as we conclude the study on March 21. You may take them home , release them either there or you may release them in our natural space. These creatures are very hardy and can survive very low temperatures. They are NOT a parasite that will harm plants or animals. A last option is to add them to our compost where they will continue to have interesting adventures. They exist as a decomposer of dead plant matter and are actually beneficial for most gardens. Just be aware that they may "spore" and create fluffy area for a short time as they move to a food source. February 28: Math Assessment Fractions March 15th . We will be sending home a practice assessment next week. February 24 : SLIME MOULD Culture experiment begins Monday. We are culturing Physarium polycephalum slime moulds. Students are asked to create a small (shoe box size or smaller) habitat from household materials to host their colony. Our intent is to have a population study (therefore we need to see an increase in population most likely). February 21: LA: Your rough draught of your essay is due Friday! Please be ready to edit with Mr. Yeo. Math: Pages 89-90 and 91-92 are due Friday as well Science: Practical Projects are really coming together! What a great use of fractions and structures/forces plus measurement . Many of our projects need "finishing touches" such as paint or other cosmetic ideas that can be worked on at home. We will try to wrap these up in the next two days and present a photo gallery of our finished work. February 14th: Thank you for a great Science Olympics event! In case you don't know our slime molds have arrived! They are prospering nicely in the habitat I have constructed. Students are going to be conducting a population study using small terrariums they construct themselves. It is important you do some research into culturing slime molds before we get started. Have a great few days off. Be ready to finish those practical projects next week and study for our structures and forces exam. (Solaro is a great resource... hint hint) February 12: Sorry for the long delay! We have been very busy with a large array of happenings and field study. Instead of our regular responses students are now expected to construct a larger project (e.g. diorama , play, game , character study , ) to respond to their theme. Math Pages: 84-88 are due Friday. Science : We are having our unit final for Structures and Forces on February 13 . I will post a study guide next week. On the day you are not going snowshoeing: we need to 'tidy up' several items . a. Bridge presentations , we are presenting to the other grade 7 students this Friday . You should be ready to be tested by Mr. Yeo, and to explain your aesthetics, budget and how your bridge would best meet the criteria b. Practical Projects: We have begun our final project for the unit to incorporate our learning and allow students to produce a creative project that will enhance the school, home or community (e.g. locker organizer, better door stops, bike rack) . Students need to identify what they are going to make and why this will enhance an environment. c. Schematic for your practical project. A diagram to explain what you think the final product will look like. This is the basis for your more detailed (and measured) "mock up" that will represent exactly how you will manufacture your final piece d. your job advertisement for a colonial trade (due last week) e. math exercises January 25: Thank you to all of our Winter Fashion Show participants. We have really enjoyed your effort and creativity as well as demonstrating your awareness of our safety requirements. (P.S. expect this to be a part of your science mark for heat and temperature).
