le mardi vingt-quatre avril
For next class, know the following words in these ways: a) whether they are used in a sentence with avoir or être b) what they mean avoir:
être
When added on to your previous studying, you should be able to translate any of the following accurately: You are tired. They are happy. We are hungry. Miles has a sister. Madame Arko and Maria have one brother. *REMEMBER you must be familiar with each of these, because they don't all translate directly! le jeudi dix-neuf avril Over the long weekend (for le mardi vingt-quatre avril) you will memorize the conjugation of avoir and être. The digitaldialects.com website has this game to help you practice. (Note: you need flash to play the game.) Your quiz is postponed until le mardi premier mai. In that time you will become an expert at conjugating avoir and être, and knowing how and where to use them. le mardi dix-sept avril Please remember your quiz on avoir will be le jeudi vingt-six avril. For homework, please sort the following words according to whether they are used with avoir or être: faim; soif; triste; malade; fatigué; douze ans; content le jeudi douze avril Your homework is to come up with (and write down) rules that explains how we conjugate verbs when we aren't using just personal pronouns. (See the examples below.) 1. Madame Arko est triste et elle a faim. 2. Moi et Molly sommes tristes et nous avons faim. 3. Toi et ton ami êtes tristes et vous avez faim. 4. Umer et Kyle sont tristes et ils ont faim. Your quiz on avoir et être will take place le jeudi vingt-six avril. Stay tuned for more information. (When we get details in class, this post will be updated.) le jeudi cinq avril For next class, please finish the handout that you were given on the verb être (to be) for next class (le mardi dix avril). Everyone should read this link about être (stop at 'idiomatic expressions). If you were absent, just read the link above. You will be given a handout when you return. le mardi treize mars Review your pronoms personnels sujets (je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous, ils, elles) and how to conjugate the verb avoir. Merci! :-) le jeudi huit mars Remember to prepare for your friendly memory competition. Memorize (to read out loud) as much as you can of the paragraph that was on the quiz (below). Since this is a friendly competition, you are trying your best for you. What matters most is the amount of effort you put in for yourself. (Little effort leads to little result.) Voilà ma classe. Also, think about the differences between what pronouns we have in English, and what pronoms are used in French. le mardi dix-neuf décembre Upload Video to Iris on a Mac
