Classroom Announcements:Welcome to the 2017- 2018 School Year!
Look here for updates on classroom news and important dates. Wednesday May 9, 2018:
Hi everyone! I wanted to touch base and let you know about some changes to this webpage to increase my ability to communicate with all of you. I'm going to be posting weekly "Check-In" on Fridays, which will communicate how the week went as far as learning and classroom activities, as well as laying out what the class will be doing the following week. This will include any homework that has been assigned. |
Lunch Group:
I have now organized our lunch group meetings: Every Wednesday and Thursday at lunch I have invited students to come to my room for extra support. I do try to split the students up so that I do not have all of them at once, as that would defeat the purpose of small group intervention. If you would like your student to come join the Lunch Group, please ask them to speak to me about which day works best for them and myself so that I can continue to provide focused small group help. A final note for the Lunch Group- I do expect the students to be somewhat self- sufficient in the group. I outline a few activities that they can work on such as working on class assignments, editing practice or math review, and then focus specifically on areas of need. I also encourage Lunch Group students to help each other, as this is the main benefit of working in small groups. |

Weekly Check-In:
-Science: We continue to work through the Planet Earth unit, and I expect we will be wrapping it up at the end of may following the Camp Chief Hector trip. We will be finishing the unit with a unit test , and then finish the year with an exploration into the remaining components of ecosystems and plants that we began at the start of the year.
-Social: The Metis test is now complete, and I am in the process of marking them. Following Camp Chief Hector we will be moving into the final stages of our social curriculum, learning about the formation of the remaining Canadian Provinces. This will culminate in a field study to Heritage Park in June to apply our learning to a local, historical context.
- Mathematics- We have finished our unit on data analysis, and have moved on to linear algebra. The students will be completing several pieces of formative practice with linear equations, culminating in the financial report that they will create and submit following the Entrepreneurial Fair. The due date for the Financial report will be Friday June 1, 2018 to give the students time to finish their work in class around the Camp Chief Hector trip.
- Language Arts- We are moving into the final stages of our short stories now. We have covered all of the basic conventions of writing including spelling, grammar and punctuation. We have reviewed the revision process, and I anticipate that with another week's worth of in class editing and revision time, we will be ready to begin a peer editing process, followed by submission of a final draft. The tentative due date for the final draft will be Friday June 1, 2018
