Fall is in full swing with all of the lovely colours, cool winds and- of course- the dramatically inconsistent Calgary weather!
It's been a busy couple of weeks since the last post, but we are all caught up and moving ahead smoothly. We will be moving this week into studying the addition and subtraction of fractions, continuing our ecosystem studies and finishing up with our student vote work on Friday as the students cast their ballots in our school wide mock election! Last week we began working with a reading comprehension strategy called "Notice and Note" by Kyleen Beers and Robert E. Probst. The students are doing an excellent job taking to it, and seem to really enjoy how they can link the key questions and signposts to theme, character and conflict in our read aloud novel, "The Skeleton Tree." As we move forward, we will be moving into a new unit in social, and soon we will transition from plants and ecosystems to our work on structures and forces in science. As always, if you have any concerns feel free to let me know! Signed, Matthew Barron-MacFadden
