Hello parents and caregivers,
Here is an update on what is happening in class! Language Arts: Students are fully emerged in their Book Club. Please talk to your student about the book they are reading? How they are enjoying it? What the predominant themes are? How they are documenting information (character growth, inferencing predictions, word work, etc.). This activity is going really well so far! It will culminate in the students completing a literature review. I look forward to see what they produce. Social Studies: Students have a unit test on the Metis People, the various battles that they engaged in with the Canadian Government, and the creation of Manitoba. Following this we will be examining expansion to the West , how Canadian's have depended on and utilized our natural resources, and the construction of the CPR. Math: Students are hard at work on our linear expressions unit. This also covered input/output tables, graphing , and linear relations. From here we will be moving on to solving algebraic equations. The work on expressions will also be used in the Business Plans for the Entrepreneurial Fair. Science: We are currently working on the Planet Earth Unit. This one is my personal favourite! We have studies fluvial processes, incremental change in landforms, weathering, erosions, and deposition, and glacial activity. Students are currently developing their own demonstration or experiment to show one of the physical processes we have learned about. They will be following the scientific method to create this work. Other Information: -May 3rd is Hats On for Mental Health - This is a day of awareness about Mental Health issues in young adults. Students are encouraged to wear hats to show that this is something they think is important to talk about. -The Market (Entrepreneur Fair) is on May 16th. All community members are welcome to come between 5 and 7pm in the evening. Comments are closed.
